Bea Hive Dance Studio’s Summer Camps

It never takes long for the excitement of summer vacation to turn into boredom and an itching to get back to school to see friends. With parents still working, day cares are often a solution to keep kids entertained over the summer in a safe environment. But Bea Hive Dance Studio is solving summer restlessness and day care needs with something better: eight weeks of dynamic and educational visual, performing, and language arts workshops from June 28 to Aug. 21, 2010, at the Bea Hive Dance Studio in Garden Grove, Calif.
The Bea Hive summer camps will assist each child in developing his or her own interests by presenting them with a diverse range of arts – most of which Owner Beatrix Dozier says are not being taught in public schools.
“Public schools no longer educate children in many of the arts, so we wanted to be a source where children can still learn about this important part of culture and be encouraged to explore their creative sides,” Dozier said.
Visual arts workshops will allow children to try their hand at sketching, drawing cartoons, doing special effects makeup, designing costumes, sewing, and more. Students will discover if they have a flair for the dramatic through the performing arts workshops focusing on music, theatre, Broadway, and various cultural styles of dancing including hip-hop, salsa and Latin dancing, Indian folk dancing, lyrical, contemporary, technique, and more. Finally, children can hone their language arts skills with one-hour reading and writing workshops every day.
“Our summer camps are different from regular day care programs in that they’re highly educational, energetic, and well-rounded,” said Program Director Brenda Huey.
Additionally, Dozier and Huey understand the tight budgets of families these days and will start planning a non-profit organization this month to allow children from low-income families to still participate in the various beneficial courses Bea Hive offers.
Registration for the summer camps is open to children ages 6 to 16. The program will culminate with a student showcase from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21.
